Concrete Pools V Fibreglass Pools

At Perth Concrete Pools, we think having a swimming pool in your backyard is a terrific addition to your home; allowing you to maximise your place for recreation and relaxation. You can go jump in after a long day, or in the middle of a particularly hot one. You will always have more fun when you bring friends around. Your house will be the place to be!

Not all pools are made equal, however. If you're thinking about installing a pool you should know they generally come in two kinds; concrete or fibreglass. While a fibreglass pool can be just as fun as a concrete one, there are several reasons why concrete pools are generally superior.

Perth Concrete Pools Look Better

If you’re installing a concrete pool, you know it’s going to look good. You can pick and choose exactly how you want it to look, from it’s color to the texture of the tiles, and concrete just looks good! Before you have one installed, have the company installing it show you some of the other pools they’ve installed to make sure they match what you’re seeing in your head.

It Adds Value to Your House

Installing any sort of pool immediately adds value to your home. It’s been found that having a pool usually raises the value of a property by an average of $30,000. In some circumstances, a pool can raise the value by up to $100,000. In the Australian heat (especially if you’re living in hot, sunny Perth) there is nothing better than being able to go for a dip in your own backyard.

You Can Make It Any Shape You Want

A concrete pool can be made truly custom, exactly to your specifications. Fiberglass pool’s come in ready-made shapes. There are only so many designs available and you will almost certainly be buying a pool exactly the same as somebody else’s. More than that, a fiberglass pool is transported in one piece to your house via truck, meaning that it can only be so big. You likely won’t be able to find a fiberglass pool wider than 4 meters. If you have a particular idea for a pool in mind, then you are going to want to go concrete. Otherwise, you’re stuck with that’s on offer.

You Can Have Special Additions Made

When installing your concrete pool, you can have certain additions, such as steps and seats, installed exactly where and how you want them to be. Some fiberglass pools do include additions such as this but there will be a limit to what you can get, and you will have no say in where it’s placed.

"How long will it take?" is usually one of the first questions we're asked, right after "how much will it cost?", and it's a fair one. A concrete pool is a significant project, and knowing roughly what to expect makes it much easier to plan around, whether you're timing it for summer or coordinating a full outdoor renovation. Here's a realistic look at what goes into building a custom concrete pool in Perth, and where the time actually goes. The short answer Most custom concrete pools take between 2 and 6 months from council approval to swimming, depending on your design, site conditions, trade and supplier availability, and how quickly council approvals come through. Our pools are built to last and finished to a high standard, so they naturally take longer than a prefabricated fibreglass pool, but that extra time is what delivers a fully custom design and the exceptional finish we're known for. What can stretch (or shorten) your timeline A few things tend to make the biggest difference to how long your build takes: · Council approval times. Our pool applications are certified by a building surveyor and typically take around 10 business days to process once submitted. Having the right documentation and fencing compliance sorted from the start goes a long way toward avoiding delays. · Site conditions. Restricted access, sloping blocks, below-ground services and hard sub-surfaces can all add time to excavation. Letting us know about these upfront, where possible, helps us plan your build more accurately. · Design complexity. A simple rectangular pool moves faster than a custom design with extra reinforcement, unique features, or intricate tiling like mosaics or raku. · Trade and material availability. Many stages depend on tradespeople and suppliers, and most can't start until the previous one is finished. Locking in your finishing selections early gives us the best chance of getting your first-choice products in stock and on site when needed, rather than settling for what's available at the time. · Weather. Perth's climate is generally kind to pool building, but like any outdoor project, some stages are weather-dependent. With heavier rainfall in recent winters, that's often when delays are most likely, though we do everything we can to keep your build on schedule. Why it pays to plan ahead Most of these factors are manageable with the right preparation, which is exactly why we handle council approvals, engineering and construction ourselves rather than outsourcing pieces of the process. After nearly 30 years building pools in Perth, we've learned that clear communication and early decisions on design, finishes and site details are what keep a build on track.
